Name : Lead-Lag Relationship between the Spot and Futures in the Indian Equity Market - An Empirical Examination
Author : Sheethal S.,Sruthiya V. N.,Nithin Jose
Abstract :
Derivatives as financial instruments are used to either mitigate risk or assume risk with the expectation of commensurate reward. The research is undertaken to examine the lead-lag relationship between the spot and futures in the equity market. The cointegration tests revealed that there is a long-run relationship between the spot and futures prices, allowing investors to employ various diversification strategies to gain profit with minimal risk. The direction of causality is also examined and showed a unidirectional relationship among the variables. In the case of the Nifty 50 index, it has been determined that the futures market outperforms the spot market thus the traders can predict the spot price movements with the help of the futures market information and earn profit at low risk. In the case of the Bank Nifty index, the Spot market leads the futures market.

Name : An Effective Time Series Analysis for Forecasting NIFTY Metal Price Index using ARIMA Model
Author : Dr Hem Shweta Rathore,Dr Anusuya Biswas
Abstract :
The paper is an endeavour to forecast NIFTY Metal Index prices using the time series forecasting model-ARIMA to enable investors to take an informed decision based on forecasting to gain better profits in the short run.To achieve this objective, the study uses descriptive statistics, tests including Dickey Fuller (DF) Test, Augmented- Dickey Fuller (ADF) Test and Phillips Perron (PP) Test and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). To further strengthen the estimated results, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE) and Their Inequality Coefficient (TIC) tests are also conducted. The analysis reveals that data are normally distributed and non-stationary. Hence, ARIMA model is best fitted model with first order differencing. Based on the correlogram and associated ACF and PACF, the study estimated four ARIMAmodels and found ARIMA(3,1,4) is the best fitted model to forecast the future value of NIFTY Metal Price Index (NMPI).

Author : Dr. Supreet Kaur
Abstract :
The present paper is an attempt to examine the existence of relationship, if any, between GDP and population in Indian Economy during post liberalisation period (i.e., from 1980-81 to 2019-20). For this purpose a variety of econometric techniques, such as Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) test Phillips-Perron (PP) tests of Stationarity; Johansen Juselius Cointegration Technique (trace test and max-eigen test) and bi-variate Granger Causality test were made use of. On the basis of the behaviour of growth pattern of GDP and population growth during the study period, it was observed that the growth rate of GDP has been surpassing than the growth rate of population during the entire study period, which may be viewed as a healthy sign for the development of an economy. Further, the econometric analysis revealed that there exists long run relationship between GDP growth and population as these variables were found to be cointegrated, while these variables do not Granger cause one another in the short run at the lower-ordered lags length, but at the higher ordered lag ,it has been observed that population growth granger causes GDPgrowth, which signifies that if more effective policy measures are undertaken to put increased population into skill building activities, then it can produce skilled labour force, thereby contributing to the further growth of an economy.
